AHKSLI at the 1st Asia WASLI Conference

The World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI) held the 1st Asia WASLI Conference in Kuala Lumpur from 31st July to 3rd August, 2025. The event was hosted by the local sign language interpreting association JUPEBIM (Interpreters and Translators Association for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Deaf Community). Two directors from our association attended the conference and reported on the progress of our “Hong Kong Sign Language Interpreting Certification System.”

This inaugural Asia conference attracted over 200 participants. The program featured various workshops focusing on different interpreting and translation techniques for sign language interpreters. Interpreters from different countries also presented research findings on local sign language interpreting and translation, covering topics such as Deaf-hearing collaboration, mental health, and translation in arts and literature.
