Great News! This year, the Association of Hong Kong Sign Language Interpreters (AHKSLI) is honored to have received funding from the HER Fund to launch the "Empowering Sign Language Interpreters: A Self-advocacy Co-learning Initiative"!
Initiated jointly by Deaf and hearing sign language interpreters, this project starts from the actual needs and challenges faced by those in the field. Within the interpreter community, we will use a "co-learning" approach to explore sign language interpreters' working conditions, obstacles to professionalization, and the gendered dynamics in the field. Our goal is to discover self-advocacy methods and wisdom, build a community support network, and collaborate on public education resources to help more people understand the vital work of sign language interpreters.
The project is divided into three phases:
Phase I: Preliminary Research
Phase II: Co-learning Workshops
Phase III: Public Education
Our team is currently preparing for the project’s rollout, and we have already officially kicked off the Phase I research. If you are interested in participating or learning more, please stay tuned for our latest updates!
