💪🏻 Tips from Deaf teachers: Common Signing Errors 🥺

When you were learning sign language, did your instructor ever have to correct you because your handshapes, movements, or facial expressions were wrong? Many people think if the handshape is correct, then they are fine. The truth is, sign language involves spatial grammar and facial expressions, and, crucially, the underlying cognitive processes rooted in the Deaf community.

For this Zoom conversation, we invite three seasoned Deaf sign language instructors - each with over a decade of teaching experience. They have taught HKSL everywhere from schools to community centres, working with everyone from beginners to professional interpreters. Guests are going to share stories and challenges they have faced. Most importantly, they will lay out the most common errors they see in HKSL learners.

Sometimes students get stuck with facial expressions. Other times, they struggle with the visual nature of signing and cultural nuances. These little details are the make-or-break factors for learners who want to become fluent.

Bring your curiosity and listen to our guests share their stories, observations, and tips. Whether you're a beginner or an aspiring interpreter, or you just want to hear Deaf teachers’ stories, you shouldn't miss this.
